Peering into “drivers cars” stopped at red lights as a I cross the street, and silently judging everyone who didn’t buy a manual. Sometimes I try to convey my complete and utter disappointment and disdain with a withering look, but it’s a hard sentiment to capture.
Someone who got an enthusiastic thumbs up instead of a glare this morning for your time.

I was talking to a friend who recently got an older Jeep. We briefly spoke about taking our Jeeps through some trails this summer before I asked him if it was a five speed or a six speed (because I honestly didn’t know). He replied, rather cheerfully, “Oh, no. It’s an automatic!” I accidentally let out an audible groan. I felt really bad about it for a solid 15 seconds.

How about the guy who loses his left foot in, say, a building collapse — should he not drive an automatic-equipped “driver’s car” if that’s what he wants?

He’s welcome to it, I guess, good point.
Though if he was really a committed car guy, he’d just get a hand clutch installed. I should have politely asked if that girl driving the optioned out 2015 Cayman S with the (admittedly very capable) PDK ‘box was disabled before proceeding to judge her. /S

You’d disapprove of me. I drive an auto Accord. You can’t get too mad though, because manual V6 Accords are hard to find.

I also check for manuals as I’m walking down the street. Today in the campus parking garage I found an extremely well kept older Nissan Altima that was a manual. This was nice.

It’s precisely as much my business as it is yours what options others buy their cars with—i.e., none—but this makes you sound like a world-class passive-aggressive asswipe.

I mostly forgive more pedestrian cars. Otherwise I'd have to dissaprove of the grey slush box civic I've been reduced to driving while my two manual wagons are out of commission haha.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible, but get a life dude.
Different people have different needs, and judging them just makes you sound like an immature twat.

Idk what kind of trails you do, but I prefer my shitty auto in tight maneuvers, especially with any grade. One less thing to worry about. I still have the option for 1-2 (maybe 3? Can’t remember) if I so desire.

Yes... As I mentioned in my CTS-V review, if you care about going fast in that car, 6spd auto is the way to go.

The trail I do the most is really tight but doen’t have much grade change. Other than that they’re typically pretty easy. We don’t have the best options in my neck of the woods. And an auto is definitely advantageous on a lot of trails, but the issue wasn’t that a manual Jeep was purchased (though a manual Wrangler just feels wrong to me). It was more that this specific person bought an automatic anything. He made such a big deal out of getting a manual Jeep and asked me to teach him how to drive manual specifically so he could get one. I helped him find some really good manual Wranglers well within his price range and everything, and at the last minute he changed his mind. I mean, it’s his car and he’s happy with it so it’s not really my place to judge. The reveal of the auto was just a bit of a let down. Ahaha

Ah, I see. Quick change of heart!
